Made in Taiwan, Kay was a proud product of the 80s. After studying film in New York City, she graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2008. After obtaining her BFA, Kay continued to work in the industry, receiving her work visa and gained immense experience as a camera assistant.
In 2014, Kay recieved her MFA in Cinematography from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. After AFI, she continued to honer her craft by shadowing with iconic cinematographers including: Frederick Elmes, ASC.(Blue Velvet), Ellen Kuras, ASC. ( Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) , Igor Martinovic ( The Night Of).
She most recently worked with Jim Jarmusch on his latest film, Paterson. On the set, Jarmusch was fond of quoting Akira Kurosawa, who at 85 was often asked when he will stop making movies. His answer: “When I figure out how to make them.”
Kay has been articulating the language of cinema for the entirety of her professional life. She aims to cultivate and learn her craft with every project and will continue for many more years to come.
